Attendance: Reporting your Child's Attendance
Success in school and regular attendance go hand in hand. Students are expected to be present and punctual for all classes throughout the year. Grades can be affected by a student’s absence if work is not completed.

Student Absence |
Parents must submit a note or call the school office at (408) 522-8288 press 1, explaining why their son or daughter was absent. Absences are considered excused if the student is absent due to illness, death in the family, a court appearance or a religious holiday, as defined by California Education Code. Students with excused or unexcused absences in excess of 10 days or 60 class periods, will receive a “supervised attendance letter” from the school and may be placed on an attendance contract. |

Student Tardy |
A student is considered tardy if he/she is not in his/her seat with required materials when the tardy bell rings. Late students must go to the office prior to attending classes. All tardies are recorded by the teacher all periods. Students tardy to class throughout the day will receive consequences assigned by the teachers. Excessive tardies will result in administrative review, assignment of a higher-level consequence, or district-level attendance intervention. |

Truancy |
Truancy is an unexcused absence. A student is truant if he/she is absent from school without a valid excuse, leaves school without permission, or cuts classes. 1st Notification of Truancy Letter for students who have more than 3 full day unexcused absences or 18 period absences. 2st Notification of Truancy Letter and an administrative meeting will be scheduled for students who have more than 6 full day unexcused absences or 36 period absences. 3rd Notification of Truancy Letter and the site will schedule an SST/RTI meeting for students who have more than 10 full day unexcused absences or 60 period absences. Students who are truant or cut classes will be assigned detention. Students may also suffer loss of privileges and/or other administrative action. |

Independent Study |
Students who accompany their parents on a trip for a minimum of five to a maximum of ten days are asked to request an Independent Study contract. A note from home explaining the nature of the absence is to be presented to the Attendance Office at least two weeks prior to departure. Students are responsible for getting assignments from teachers before leaving. The completed assignments must be handed in when the student returns to school. If assignments are not received, students will receive an “unexcused” absence |
